Brief introduction to magnetic confinement fusion


Because of its rich resources and near pollution-free feature, fusion energy has become the ideal energy source for the future of human society. It is not only one of the most promising fundamental ways to completely solve the energy problem, but also has important strategic significance for the sustainable development of China's economy and society. It is a basic frontier field for long-term development.


As one of the four research directions deployed by the Institute of Energy of Hefei Comprehensive National Science Center, the main task line in the field of magnetic confinement fusion energy is to build the world’s most advanced fusion plasma science, fusion reactor design and fusion engineering technology research and development platform by focusing on the national energy development strategy plan, taking the participation in the ITER plan as an opportunity, relying on the major national science and technology infrastructure of EAST, the design of China Fusion Engineering Test Reactor (CFETR) in the national key R & D plan and the comprehensive research facility for the key system of the fusion reactor to be built, which plans and deploys the construction of China's fusion engineering test reactor, promotes the process of fusion energy application, and seizes the commanding heights of developing international magnetic confinement fusion from the aspects of basic research, fusion reactor design and fusion engineering technology application.
